Dr. Pundik is a Professor of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a Vascular Neurologist at the VA Northeast Ohio Health System. She grew up in Ukraine and began her academic studies there. Following her immigration to USA, she received her undergraduate and medical degrees from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). She completed Neurology residency and Vascular Neurology fellowships at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and Cleveland VA Medical Center. During the fellowship, she had completed Clinical Research Scholars Program, a Master’s Degree program at CWRU. Dr. Pundik has been a staff neurologist at the Cleveland VA for over 15 years while conducting research and leading stroke care as a director of the clinical Stroke program at the Cleveland VA. Her research laboratory is developing novel rehabilitation therapies for stroke and traumatic brain injury. The methods include non-invasive brain stimulation, myoelectrical orthotic devices and virtual reality. Using state-of-the-art multimodal neuroimaging and neurophysiological brain imaging techniques, her research investigates brain plasticity in response to therapies and to evaluate brain changes for patients wtih chronic pain. Her goals are to understand mechanisms of sensorimotor recovery and of pain mitigation and, ultimately, improve outcomes for her patients.
