Ciro Ramos-Estebanez MD., Ph.D., MBA. is a physician-scientist and Neuro-Critical Care Division Chief at University of Illinois at Chicago.
Ciro has completed extensive clinical training including an Internal Medicine residency (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), a Neurology residency (Harvard Medical School), and Neuro-Critical Care fellowship at the University of Miami.
Ciro’s research focuses on understanding and enhancing neural recovery through noninvasive neuromodulation, brain stimulation, and neurorehabilitation strategies. Dr. Ramos-Estebanez has led and collaborated on numerous studies investigating the physiological and clinical effects of neuromodulation in movement disorders, stroke, and brain injury.
Clinical research achievements focused on neurocritical care, including novel diagnostic criteria for Toxic Hypoxic Leukoencephalopathy in the setting of heroin inhalation, the description of a new of communicating hydrocephalus post-heroin inhalation. Overall, Ciro is an innovator who has produced basic science, as well as translational and clinical manuscripts published in such journals as Neurology, J Neuroscience, J Neurosurgery, JAMA Neurology amongst others.
Ciro holds Fellow status at national society level (i.e., American Academy of Neurology, American Neurological Association, and Neurocritical Care Society). In addition, he has completed M.B.A. training and currently serves as the Associate Head for Clinical Affairs at the Department of Neurology at UIC.
