Dr. Ashwini Sharan is the Chief Medical Officer of Medtronic Neuromodulation, where he leads global strategy in innovation, clinical evidence, physician engagement, and education. He also advises on business development and collaborates with the medical community to identify emerging opportunities. Additionally, he serves as Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
A board-certified neurosurgeon with over 24 years of experience, Dr. Sharan has performed more than 8,000 procedures and treated over 25,000 patients. He has trained 40 residents and 11 fellows, all of whom pursued academic careers, and mentored over 70 medical students. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in functional neurosurgery, especially in epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, and neuromodulation.
Dr. Sharan has served as a principal investigator on multiple NIH-funded studies and was the top surgical enroller in the DARPA RAM project. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, cited more than 20,800 times, with an H-index of 78. His leadership includes serving as Past President of both the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the North American Neuromodulation Society. He is a founder of several neuromodulation startups. Dr. Sharan resides in Southern New Jersey with his wife and two daughters.
