Lara Walsh Massie, MD, FAANS is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in complex and reconstructive spine surgery. She completed her neurosurgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital and a fellowship in complex spine surgery at Duke University under the mentorship of Drs. Christopher Shaffrey and Isaac Karikari. Dr. Massie is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Drexel University College of Medicine and practices at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Her clinical interests include adult spinal deformity, minimally invasive and motion-preserving spine surgery, cervical and lumbar degenerative disease, and patient optimization to improve surgical outcomes. Dr. Massie maintains an active research portfolio focused on spine outcomes, healthcare utilization, opioid stewardship, and disparities in surgical care, with publications in The Spine Journal, JAMA Network Open, and Neurosurgical Focus.
Nationally, Dr. Massie holds leadership roles within the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and AANS/CNS Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, and she is a frequent invited speaker at national and international spine meetings.
