Dr. Deer is the world leader in research, product development, and education in Interventional Spine and Pain treatment.
He is the President and CEO of The Spine and Nerve Centers of the Virginias, a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at West Virginia University School of Medicine and Director Pain Medicine at WVU Hospitals, Thomas Campus.
Dr. Deer has led pivotal studies to achieve FDA approval, and many “first in human” approved devices. His work has led to more than 300 peer reviewed publications, and many classic textbooks. Awards include the Presidential Award of Merit (North American Neuromodulation Society), Life Time achievement Award (NYNJ soicety), and the British Pain Society Medal of Honor in 2022.
Dr. Deer is Chairman of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, Past President of the International Neuromodulation Society (INS), and President Emeritus of the WVSIPP. He is he Past Chairman of the ASA Pain Committee.
In addition he accomplished endurance athlete with accolades including Men’s Championship in the Keys 50 miler in 2017, being the fastest over 50 years of age in the Ultrarunning World Championship in the Badwater 135 mile run in 2021 and competing in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on many occasions.
