Robert J. Greenberg, M.D., Ph.D., joined huMannity (formerly the Alfred Mann Foundation) in 1998, was elected Chairman of the Board in 2004, and became Chairman and CEO in 2021. He is a co-founder and former CEO and Chairman of Second Sight Medical Products, Inc., where he led the development of groundbreaking neural prosthetics, including the Argus II visual prosthesis for retinitis pigmentosa and the Orion wireless cortical visual prosthesis, with potential applications for most forms of blindness and other brain diseases.
A recognized leader in neural prosthetics, Dr. Greenberg has also served as an Independent Director at Pulse Biosciences and previously worked as a medical reviewer at the FDA’s Office of Device Evaluation. Since 2001, he has been Chairman of the Board of the Southern California Biomedical Council.
Dr. Greenberg holds more than 260 U.S. and 100 international patents, has published over 60 articles, and has received numerous honors. He earned his MD and PhD from Johns Hopkins University and is a Fellow of multiple prestigious scientific and engineering organizations.
