Dr. Jan Willem Kallewaard is an anesthesiologist and pain physician based in Arnhem, working at Rijnstate Hospital and the Academic University Centre of Amsterdam. He completed his PhD on discogenic low back pain and has a particular interest in neuromodulation therapies for both low back pain and abdominal visceral pain. He also holds the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London.
Dr. Kallewaard has been working at Rijnstate since 1999. In 1990, he obtained the medical degree at Utrecht University. He specialized as an anesthesiologist at the University Medical Center Utrecht. He has further specialized in pain medicine and, together with his colleagues at Rijnstate, has developed the Pain Center into a center of expertise for the Netherlands in the field of lower back and leg pain complaints. In particular, epiduroscopy, neuromodulation and disc treatments are treatments that are performed in this center of expertise. Pain relief is further carried out across the board. In 2011, Jan-Willem Kallewaard successfully passed the FIPP exam.
